Default Want better headlights

Are the headlights not great on your TJ. Mine came with H4 inserts when I got it, not sure if these are standard fitment or it originally had sealed beams. any way they were never great. The standard wiring is holden HQ technology with all the current running through the headlight switch, no relays fitted at all. I fitted a double headlight relay and now just use the headlight switch to switch the relay, about $30 delivered. replaced the globes with Phillips extreme 55/60 H4 halogen globes $35 delivered from the UK, 1/3 of the price from the well know Australian retailers. Lights are now great, you can actually drive at night. Cheap mod that can be done on the weekend that give big improvements.

Export TJs got H4 headlamps. It was only US/Canada that got the sealed beam units.

With standard bulb technology adding wiring with relays and decent wire can do a lot for brightness. Several years ago, with standard wiring I had 11.8V at the headlights with the engine running. Adding a harness with relays and decent wire took that up to 13.8V with a noticeable improvement in light output.

Bulb technology also helps. The best I had before switching to Trucklite LED headlamps a few years ago was Osram Night Breaker Ultimate in Hella H4 headlamps. I'd say they were as good as the OEM units with PIAA Extreme White bulbs (circa 2002 -PIAA kept changing the range and getting more expensive so I stopped using them after the following set of bulbs weren't as white or bright).
