Default Flashlube Catch Can Pro experiences ?

Hi team,

looking to get some real life experiences with the Flashlube Catch Can Pro fitted to the Wk2 3.0 diesel, specifically:

1/. Oil capture rate eg ml’s per 1,000 k’s
2/. Any issues with engine oil leaks ?
3/. Anything else of interest or to note ?

Cheers

I fitted one just after I got my WK2 as it is smaller and easier to mount than Provent. I have found it excellent, with one minor issues being a leaking drain cock that was supplied with the kit. I drain it every 3000k or so and catch around 150ml of oil. Replacement filters are very expensive at around $100 but Wesfil have recently made an alternative available at a fraction of the OEM cost. Wesfil WCF315.

According to their website, no they don't. However its not a big job to have a bracket fabricated to attach the catch can via 2 fixing points that are readily available upon the engine block (passenger side).

What size/type hoses did you use for the flashlube? I have one sitting on my bench ready to be fitted

The catch can has 19mm inlet and outlet fittings, so an oil/heat rated hose with 19mm ID will do but the inlet fitting on the engine near the turbo is around 22mm. I prefer to avoid the use of plastic reducers and elbows altogether, so I heat one end of the 19mm hose in boiling water and jam a socket into it while hot to enlarge the ID. Take the socket out when hose has cooled and you have a custom formed hose 19mm one end and 22mm the other. Mount the catch can on the side of the air filter box and rotate the top of the catch can so the inlet and outlet ports point towards the outlet and inlet ports on the engine and you avoid the need to use 90 degree elbows too.
