You can pretty easily replace them yourself, due to the availability (at least in the US) of aftermarket kits to replace the CVs used on some of the driveshafts. On the WK-I at least, some of the front driveshafts used CVs at both ends and some used the CV only on the side that's connected to the transfer case, the front joint on those is a ujoint. It is common for the rear CV on the front shaft to fail, the boot fails then the grease flys out and the joint starts howling. Jeep dealers will say you have to replace the whole shaft for $775 US, but I used a Dorman repair kit (can be bought on Amazon or ebay for about $100) to replace the bad CV on mine. About 2 hrs of my time and $100. The front plunge style CV is also available from driveshaftparts.com via ebay.

Something I haven't looked at yet but on my WG I just went to a CV/Drive Shaft shop locally and got a new one, part was common enough and yes Jeep said at the time new shaft.

I did find back then the Front CV boots on the WG were the same as a Brumby and some other vehicles, made shopping easier and way cheaper, have to start searching again. What was the Dorman part number for the bearing you got, I'll use it to cross reference might be a common part here.

Dorman 932-303 also used on some Dodge models and some Mitsubishi models.
