Gave it all a good go with the vacuum cleaner while they were out at least.

The WJ heat seaters are easy to fix, I had to do mine a few times. Pull back the seat cover and you will see where it has burnt through and where you need to add wire.

Yeah, I tried that and saw it had already been fixed once. Tried again and it still didn't work. So they're on the shelf again until I get a chance to look at them again.

I'll probably keep it like this though, these work well now I've done the fix on them and are comfortable enough. Plus I think the WJ bases looked a bit out of place for the rest of the car.

Put together a quick and dirty parcel shelf, decided I didn't like the look of bare MDF so I the covered it with a bit of marine carpet. Looks much nicer than the MDF does and much nicer than the unmitigated clutter my boot was beforehand!

During my last trip I saw transmission temperatures around 100*C without working the car hard, so I decided to switch from the existing cooler to a separate radiator with a thermostat.
Extra reasoning behind the separate radiator:
- All newer NAG1 setups (WK, JK) seem to use a separate radiator
- post-2006 MB applications (NAG1, NAG2) all use some sort of separate radiator
- 3 reports on the local forums of ruptured internal coolers, which culminate in a broken torque converter

It's an OEM Mercedes cooler, the thermostat opens at 80*C.
The two legs for lower support are missing from this picture:

Line routing:

Pretty nifty tube design:

Tomorrow after I finish the trans cooler install I'm finally starting on the slim transmission crossmember. The big round counterweight on the transfer case is not connected to the driveshaft, so I will chop a section out and then I can easily lift the entire transfer case up for more clearance.
Sadly because of the pandemic I won't be able to drive it too soon for testing.

If I recall correctly, the TCU does not start putting oil through the cooler until the sensor says the oil is above 85 degrees.

Routine service and a quick check why it sometimes took a bit of cranking to start after sitting for longer than usual. I think I found it. The suction hose was rubbing on the TPS.

New belt idler. Two to go. With the belt off they all rattle a fair amount.
