Default Not feeling the power!

Hi Guys

So I got the Jeep going, been out driving and even went through a warrant check first time!

There are still a few issues to sort like the wining diff and second gear synchros!

But my main concern right now is I’m just not feeling the power that the TD is supposed to have?

I suspect it is in a limp mode as it seems a little flat and I don’t feel the turbo come on and boost like my other TD car the mighty Escort.

Car starts and runs ok, temp is stable on the gauge.

No codes coming through on Obd11 Torque app. But!

Looking at the sensor outputs the coolant temperature and manifold temp are both showing 215c?? Ignition on vehicle cold!

Still at work so not much time to investigate but I did unplug the gauge sensor and plugged into ecu sensor thinking the gauge should go off the scale if the temp sensor was faulty, but it didn’t?

That’s as far as I got last night, tomorrow I’ll check the ohms across both at cold at up to running temp and compare? Maybe it could be a bad earth also?

Does anyone know the part number for these temp sensors? All I found from LB40 was reference to the wrong one?

I think if I sort this temp issue I will unlock the limp mode and get full power

What do you think?

What is this wrong part number you speak of?
After trying to obtain temp sensors locally for mine, I gave up & rebuilt my sensors. My 2 Xj's have different sensors.
Does yours have a MAP or a MAF? There was an ECU upgrade in 2000.
Is your temp gauge on the dash off scale? Maybe the results from your obd are wrong.
Have you tried disconnecting the injector #1 sensor to see what limp feels like?
If it makes no difference, then you have a #1 sensor issue.

Hi LB

It was an old post of yours were SuperCrap had supplied the wrong part, I read again and it does mention the correct part FAE33540 it’s back in 2014 so maybe suppliers have changed.

It’s a year 2000 so upgraded two temp sensor, MAP on intake.

Checked no1 96ohms
Swapped gauge plug to the other but couldn’t get enough slack on the other cable to swap.

I’ll do some more checks when I’m off on Tuesday.

Cheers

As far as I know the xj td cars are not OBDII compliant and therfore the values get from Torque could be meaningless figures .
I have used an ELM 327 obd reader and I think all I could get it was the battery voltage .
If the Escort is a petrol engine than it is different than a diesel . Diesel reacts slower to boost pressure compared to petrol engines.Torque is achieved at lower rpm range on diesels . Over 3500 rpm not much happening and if it does it is very slow . Have a lock at the turbo activator if it moves freely ,maybe check the turbo fins if intact or the turbo shaft for transversal excesive movement , EGR valve free movment or blockage.
If Egr valve doesn't close properly part of exaust pressure will be sent back to the intake manifold therefore some boost pressure will be lost .
That's all I can think of . It could be also boost pressure lost in boost pipes or intercooler .Or exaust loose or cracked .

Hi

The Escort is a mk6 1.8td (don’t know if you have them in Australia?)and has good torque.

The Jeep seems a bit sluggish.

Have checked the turbo for play, egr is blocked off.

I need to add a boost pressure gauge to see what the turbos doing.

Maybe like you say, if it’s not OBD2 compliant it could be bogus?

Drives fine otherwise.

Maybe I’ll inquire at the “steelership” as you guys call them and see what a DRB3 Scan and reset would cost? Would this clear a limp mode or can I do that with the battery/key/headlight sequence?

Cheers guys

Cleared a MAF fault code that had it in limp mode -10%

Much better power!

Fuel consumption came down but still high, about 11lt/100km

Do you guys get accurate reading from the overhead trip meter thingy?

I’ll do the actual km/tank and work it back but are they supposed to run about 9-10lt/100

What are you diesel guys getting?

Cheers Andrew

Ive been reading up a lot on gearbox's and diffs and additives. People swear by Nulon G70. PTFE additive and some other stuff. From what i have read, it can really help with synchro's.
I think there is a special oil for you box as well. So hopefully someone will chime in, but it may be worth dumping the gearbox oil and putting the correct stuff in. I have heard of people with your symptoms and using the correct oil fixes it. Also some G70 in the diffs may help quieten them down. Do some research as i am not sure how additives go if you have and LSD. Some new 90/140 for the rear may be the go in the rear if that is the case.

Cheers,
