Another vote for the Nulon, I've run it and the Penrite Enviro+ 5W-20 without any noticeable difference in MDS activation. Just found the Nulon on special more frequently.

In a 2005 Hemi with MDS.

Everything I've ever read on the 5.7 Hemi and the MDS system has said, that you need to use 5/20 oil for the MDS system to function properly. I've owned this Jeep since it was 2 years old and have run it on Mobil 1 5w/20 since about 25,000 miles when I go it, now at 114,000 miles. So far so good. BTW, in the USA it seems that Pennzoil Platinum Syn is preferred by Chrysler, Mobil 1 used to be a factory fill on the SRT 6.4 Liter Hemis but since the Fiat buy out they switched to Pennzoil and Mobil has not submitted Mobil 1 for updated testing to pass the latest Chrysler spec. I continued to use it though because I had no problems with it....

The 5.7 to 6.4 hemis have inherent camshaft lifter and cam wear problems! The cam is too high in the block getting very little splash feed at idle plus the lifter angles to the cam are not at optimum angles.Failure can an happen at low ks even in new Rams ,Hellcats etc with these engines .I am currently looking at GC 2015 6.4 SRT8 with this cam lifter failure 90000 I contacted hemi engine rebuilders here and in the US no real fix available other than a full rebuild or new crate motor then it might happen again !.One said running moly additive in oil may show promise.Removing the mds has not shown to stop the problem.FCA here and in US are fully aware of this problem but to date have admitted no liability for failures on out of warranty vehicles. This might change here as the owner of the vehicle I looked at has asked FCA Aust for a new engine, and has the money etc to take it further! I might also add this motor has very little in common with the previous legendary hemis of old.

Yep this has been making me nervous lately... although everything I'm reading/hearing suggests this issue started with the VVT hemis 2009 onwards (mine is an '06 pre-VVT.). Can you confirm/deny either way?

The original mopar hemi’s were 1960’s Chrysler RB big blocks, that used 1950’s desoto developed hemispherical design on its heads.

The ‘modern hemi’ is from the deck down is really a updated 1960’s Chrysler A and later LA small block, with alloy ‘hemi’ heads but still pushrod design.
The original small blocks used flat tappet lifters pushrods and Wedge heads.
Having always owned a Least 1 mopar small block car always in my collection Since the early 1980’s I can attest That no small block I have owned (and I have owned at least a dozen) has never suffered cam lubrication problems so the current hemi lube issues may be due to cost cutting on metallurgy rather than poor cam location.
