Hi Alex
Our UK 3.0CRD had no DPF too. Mine is a facelift 2008 and has not got one.

You are spoiled for choice with regards to oil. I would definitely go full synthetic. You would still be fine with the C3 MB229.51 oil even without the dpf. Genuine Mercedes oil is cheap as chips in UK.

If you would rather a full saps oil then a MB229.31/ACEA E9 would be great.

With the climate you lads have you could even consider a 10w/40.

Noticed some lads using high zinc oil. Is that ok with the catalytic converter?

This is quite an interesting article. Seems diesel cats can handle higher zinc, and most diesel oils have higher zinc content, and its one of the reason why diesel oil isn’t recommended in petrol cars...

I use full synthetic and change every 7 to 10 thousand km.
I also only use Mann filters from Spares Box.

Thanks guys..

I’ll wait for the full synthetic to come on special.
I’ll have a look to see if they have Mann filters on Rockauto, otherwise I heard the Wix is OK.

I just downloaded the operators guide. To be honest, I’m sure my mate wasn’t using the correct procedures, so 4Lo may still be OK, but he just couldn’t activate it.

I pick it up on Saturday.

Cheers,

Alex I'd look at hpr-10/hpr-15 in the diesel oil for a 230k engine. that's based on what I was told by an english bloke from Castrol when we were talking about truck engine oils and operating temperatures and conditions. He said those low winter weight oils such as 0w20, 5w20 etc are really only for countries where everything freezes in winter. In australia he said 10w40 was good for a new engine going heavier as the k's went up.

I can look into it Oldon.
The temps don’t drop to much here in winter, so a 10w40 is probably good.

Cheers,

Hi Alex
I use Mahle filters and they are fine too.

Can you get Shell Rotella T6 in Aus'? The Yanks seem to swear by it.

Only other thing I could suggest is a change of all fluids if there are no records of such. When I got mine I did engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, transfer case and diffs.
