I had some Monroe shocks sent to me recently, dated 2003!
One was limp, and the other started to leak after opening!
About 6 -8 weeks later I finally received replacement ( thinking they where making a new set) dated 2015?
Never again !
I do beleive shocks should selected around your springs rating.
Once upon a time ...
Sports cars had firm suspension, and 4x4s had soft suspension to take out the bumps.
Extra payloads etc these days has altered due to individual needs.
You can still have 2" to 3" lift whilst maintaining a stock softer ride in spring configuration.
Or stock height, yet heavier springs for load.
The type of ride you want should primarily be started with your spring configuration, then select shocks to suit.
If your going to be doing a dollar on corrugated roads etc for extended time, best go with a mono valve, daily sealed road, twin valve shock.
