Default 2002CRD How to access the Engine Pressure Sensor

In 2008 my GF crashed my 2002 Export 2.5L CRD into a tree.

This obviously damaged various wiring harnesses all around but mainly up front.
Since then every few years I pick up a different CEL.

I have the 2002 Export CRD Wiring diagrams and know my electronics so I pull out my Digital Multimeter and with the aid of the Wiring Diagrams I trace down a particular wire that is either open circuit or has a partial short to Ground or a partial short to some other random wire.

These wires are generally in major wire looms and pretty much impossible to get to so I usually end up cutting the suspect wire...and its Splices.....off at all ends and replacing the wire with new wire and making notes in the wiring diagrams.

I have probably fixed about 15 faults like this by now...never had to replace any actual component!

I am now picking up intermittent P0520 "Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction Plausibility" errors....could also be "Oil Press Sensor Circuit Malfunction Voltage too High or Low"

This would normally not be an issue for me...find the "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor" and do the mandated voltage checks etc. that manuals request and if something looks funny check the wiring!

The trouble is I cannot see or feel the location of the Oil Pressure Sensor although the Parts Fiche shows it is just above and behind the Oil Filter!

I just cannot get my hands in there from above or below!

Any advise on how to access this Sensor and the Harness plug connected to it short of removing the Engine!

Any pictures available of this sensor's location?

Billwill, I think I have found your Oil Pressure sensor. I checked my Parts Fiche (for my 2007 CRD) and found it hiding in the Sensors, Engine category, Figure 8-615. Item 23, Sensor, Oil Pressure

Part Nmber is: 05093908AA

Now this sensor is used on a number of Jeep and Chrysler engines over the years, so fingers crossed it might be the one in your engine.

A quick search on the Net found a number of suppliers, and it appears to have some equivalent part numbers for different models but it is the same device.

From the look of it, it seems to fit into the block, so what you should be looking for is a simple black plastic connector, with a connector pushed into it from the wiring loom. How you remove it I am not sure but I will look through my Service Manual when I have time.

So search for that part number and yo will find photos of it to help you.
Access should be straight forward.

Now since I no longer have my CRD I cannot imply crawl under it to check mine, but maybe someone else could.

Good Luck.

Update on Oil Pressure Sensor location.

UNIT-OIL PRESSURE SENDING
DESCRIPTION
The oil pressure switch is located on the right side of the engine block. The switch screws into the engines main oil
gallery.

OPERATION
The oil pressure sending unit uses three circuits. They are:
² A signal circuit to the ECM.
² A sensor ground circuit through the ECM.
² A 5 volt reference circuit from the ECM.
The oil pressure sending unit returns a voltage signal back to the ECM relating oil pressure. Ground for the sensor
is supplied by the ECM.

Sorry that is all I have. I cannot find a diagram in my service manual of the exact location.
Good luck

Thanks glend.....I just cannot physically get my head into place to see it and cannot reach there to feel what is going on.

At the moment the problem appears to be resolved.

In the engine bay on the RHS next to the right of the air filter are three thick harnesses that are supposed to have the plastic connectors clipped into the metal of the engine bay so as to hold them up firmly.

The useless Dealers here when they last replaced my Timing Belt were too lazy to clip these connectors in so the connectors were hanging down somewhat and maybe allowing some wires to touch onto engine/chassis somewhere.

I lifted up the connectors and clipped them into the chassis as required and since then I have not had the Oil Pressure Code come up again.

Thanks for your help...we will see how things go!

Since there are no pictures in that linked thread this may help. It's from the FSM showing the connector location.

Great idea Jonny to look for the connector location!

I have the 2002 Diesel Logics but did not think of looking for the connector location as your post shows.

That location is totally different to the location shown in the Parts Fiche ie. this now appears to be at the rear of the engine...I am having some difficulty identifying the components shown there!

I am busy moving house at the moment so will only be able to follow this up in about a week's time.

Thanks for your post!
