Default HP Fuel Pump - stuck

Hi guys, a little help please.

02, 2.7. Im trying to change the high pressure fuel pump. Everything is undone, all pipes are off, and I took the low pressure pump off also for more clearance.

My problem is the HP pump is stuck fast. It was absolutely solid to the head. I managed to get a pry bar in there and have gently rocked it back and forth for hours it seems. It was tight against the block, but after ages ive managed to get it to move 3 or 4 mm away from the block, it rocks side to side, but its still stuck, it just wont come off forwards.

From the FSM is looks like it should pull right off, no spline I can see, and ive looked through all the HP replacement threads / pics on here and all is great except I get stuck at the one liner "remove the pump". I cant !

There are just 3 torx bolts holding it in, they are definitely all out.

I have no idea why its stuck, no room to get a puller on it, and I dont want to damage anything. Cant believe it is stuck in there.

Anyone else have similar?

Can’t say I know what the issue is, but whenever confronted with something like this I do this -

* Put everything back together as if replacing it, torque it all back down and connect everything up.
* Walk away and leave it for a day or so (a day or two won’t matter because you are stuck where you’re at with it anyway).
* Come back fresh and motivated and try removing it again.

Can’t say it will work, but amazing how often it does.

I would not keep trying to pry it off with a bar at this point. Can only imagine you will break something that you don’t want broken.

Great advice, thanks. "Walk away". Well, that did the trick...

I am not sure what the problem was, but its off. A bit more wiggling back and forth and a squirt of penetrating fluid and 24 hours later it popped right off. Not sure what the problem was, surfaces look to be pretty clean. Was expecting rust or a damaged edge, but it looks fine. Weird.

I confess that the "walk away" method often works for me too. Weird. I suspect that it's something to do with getting stuck in trying a particular way, when coming back later resets the mind.
