Default fixed at last

ive had a PS pump leak for months maybe even over a year, i decided to replace the reservoir and got one from RockAuto, i think i bought middle of the road price.

so fitted it up and i wasn't happy with how it mounted and it leaked
pulled it off again and decided the supplied O ring wasn't up to the job, got another from the local parts store, still leaked, so off again and siliconed the O ring, still leaked, off again and on closer inspection the O ring was not the cause

so i ordered a new tank this time a Dorman made in taiwan the previous one was made in vietnam.

fitted it up and yea no leaks, i suspect the vietnam made one the joint between back half and front half leaked or the body was porous,

lesson is cheaping out doesn't always work, now i only have the crank rear seal leaking as it has for the last 23 years, i can live with that, cause at 447000 km im not pulling it apart

Well done.
Crank rear seal is easy. I’ve got pics of doing it on my vsb 14 thread. Do it on an oil change. Just need the two part seal, some black silicone and a good Felpro oil pan seal. The one with the pegs makes mounting a breeze.

Cheers,

yep i agree the rear seal is not to bad a job, but for me i have to remove an intermediate exhaust pipe from the extractors to mid muffler, as it blocks the rear most sump bolts.

as the motor has done so many K's i wonder if the crank will be so scored by the seal that even a new seal won't cure the leak, i wonder if there is a seal with an offset running surface so it doesn't use the original grooved area.

i had a similar problem with a pinion yoke not sealing and had to sleeve it, of course that's not possible with the crank shaft

A pair of 3 bolt exhaust flanges and gasket are worth fitting when dropping the exhaust out.
Pipe clamps are total crap when it comes to undoing them.

3 bolt flange at extractor end but solid all the way to the tail, 2.5 inch system including CAT.

so not impossible but it means undoing the flange then dropping the rest of the system, as i do about 1000 km per year and at 68 im not all that keen to spend to much time under it.

ive always considered the oil leak as auto rust proofing hahah
