The pan rail is probably not flat anymore, might have been over tightened at some stage. You can fix that with some patience and beer.

Are you sure its not the insides of the cat that's rattling? Happened to my son's 2000, the rattling finally stopped when the piece broke off and plugged up the pipe. He was out on the trail when happened. The local garage fixed it by cutting a hole in the side of the cat and scraping out the guts.

Are you suggesting filling the pan with beer and drinking it before tackling the job?

No Bill it's not a cat rattle it vibrates more than a subwoofer on heat !
Anyway I got the oil and the filter today So I will get into it tomorrow I will run it a bit to warm the oil up and get underneath and look at the exhaust rattle while it is running ..................
Once I sort the rattle out I want to run it up to Barcaldine 106k away so a 212k round trip a good shake down run
Thats a lot of beer Fishframe But I am sure I could drink it!

Well I did the oil change and I was surprised how black the oil was considering the low k's on the oil but the time must of done it the front hanger is bent I think that's why the exhaust touches the tranny crossmember I will go down the mechanics and get them to heat it up and bend it there is a pin size hole in the muffler I will patch up with some kneed it the tranny fluid needed about a cup full not from leaking but more of a top up after fitting the new tranny cooler I think the few small drives this week got things pumping through all in all looking good when I am in Brisbane at Xmas I might get a new exhaust and some steel wheels ... now its up and going I will start researching the double din touch screen setup

Your dash is same as my TJ, I think?

I considered double din but in the end decided on a single din Kenwood from super cheap auto. Decent quality and not expensive. It does everything I need it to do and most important has Bluetooth for my phone.

The money I saved I put towards some Kicker speakers off flea-bay to replace the ones near the doors and the subwoofer. My TJ has the hardtop permanently fitted, sound system is actually quite good.
