newbie thinks about buying a WK - BUT (moved)
i have moved this from another section.....
g'day guys i am new here and i have had the chance to buy jeeps before and they have always slipped away right before i can get the ca$h together but this time i have the cash and i have the chance to buy a 2006 jeep grand cherokee turbo diesel at a decent price (which im sure i can get it cheaper!) BUT as you might have guessed its affordable because it has a problem, it starts and runs but doesnt drive!
I've done a quick bit of research and i have heard that these models like unlinking internal linkages or snapping drive bands, i'm hoping it could be as simple as the gearbox sprung a leak & the guy just let it run out of trans oil, but not being familiar with jeeps i don't if it even has a filler tube or if its a fully sealed box.
the Jeep itself is a 4hr drive from me and at this stage it will take a bit of effort thanks to certain obligations to arrange to go see it, so i thought i'd jump on a Jeep forum and ask a few questions like
A; does this model jeep come with a filler tube to check the oil level in the gearbox?
B; what could other issues regarding "no drive" and what other issues should i look for on a WK (turbo diesel)
C; what is worst case scenario $$$ for replacing the entire gearbox?
I's love to buy a TJ but i cant afford one, and i like my creature comforts too much and i love turbo diesels so i think this WK will fit me just nicely and i think it will be a nice feature for my youtube channel - it's in the setup phase at the moment i launched it in January and it only has a few vids up but i think a bit of Jeep action could bring in a few more subs haha
