I've searched the website & they don't seem to list a pump for a 2.7 CRD.

Apart from the pump sounding like a cement mixer (which it didn't before I started all this) I'm getting a lot of foam in the reservoir.

Searches indicate this is down to:
  1. air leak into the system (from one of my new hoses?)
  2. trapped air in the system (tried the lock-to-lock with the engine off & running).
Would this trapped air make the pump sound really rough? It does sound like a bearing but I suppose it could be cavatation.

I'm still trying to locate a source for the reservoir to pump hose (52089004) so I can get a better fit. I've found it in the States for $19 but they want $95 postage !!! Apparently trans Atlantic shipping costs have shot up!

Air in the fluid can make a lot of noise and sound like the pump is damaged. It can take a fair while for all of the tiny bubbles to dissipate. Make sure you keep checking the level in the reservoir, as the bubbles dissipate the level will sneak down and it may suck in more air. My guess is that is just air in the fluid as you said the pump was fine before. It has taken a number of start, run, stop and repeat for my PS pump to settle down and be quiet under similar circumstances. Run the motor turn the steering afew times, stop and leave it sit for a while, then repeat. Good luck, if the pump is buggered running it isnt going to matter.

I remember the stock was really low when I got mine, it's no longer available on their site. ebay.co.uk also lists it as out of stock:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GEPCO-Pow...-/303471541844

Yesterday I've installed the pump, the hose from the reservoir was a simple rubber one and I had to put a clamp on one of the bends to prevent it from crushing. Other than that, it fits well.

I found it a real struggle to get the new hose on to the reservoir. If I was doing it again I'd remove the reservoir completely and fit it on the bench.

I've followed advice about bleeding the system. A few cycles of starting & stopping got most of the air out. I left the cap off while I did this and noticed the system burping into the reservoir after shut down.

Finally it took it for a drive. It no longer sounded like a cement mixer - it now sounded like the bus into town with that peculiar whine they all have. A sprint up the dual carriageway at 60 - 70 mph and a twisty route back seemed to have done the job.

It's all pretty quiet now. It's still burping a bit of air - I'm putting a tablespoon of fluid in after every run but it must be nearly done now.

Thanks for all who contributed advice.
