Supposedly a replacement "SET" is in the post AusPost tracking number supplied please allow 15 to 20 days for delivery Obviously coming from China.
I pulled the throttle body off today to check and clean as I suspected the IAC is almost new I replaced it for the CarKiller a while back it would be lucky to have a thousand k on it no need for cleaning but as it was off I did anyway metho on a rag there was hardly no carbon in the throttle body less now While I was in the mood I removed the 21' lightbar in preparation for the 9' spot lights Test fitted the lightbar on the 96 it will fit fine I have to make some cardboard templates of the brackets I need for the spot lights I will go up the welding works and see what scrap he has
The cam sensor should be here on Tuesday so hopefully this fixes it?
This is before I cleaned it

well that's .. That! I fitted the new cam sensor and it did absolutely Nothing .... Still the same? Well I am getting a few spares collected
I did a lot of reading today and a lot times there are shared symptoms I don't know if I narrowed it down or the Fact that the MAP SENSOR is the only one that has never been changed and looks original ... SO! ...
$66.89 later for a New Fridge Magnet I'll say it is the MAP sensor
What choice do I have and I bet because it is the last choice It will fix it
When I pulled the throttle body off the other day I looked at all the sensors and yes the IAC and TPS are new and the front O2 is new and changed by me in the last 1000k and 2 1/2 yrs (of sitting)
I suppose I had to change every sensor in the 96 when I first got it to coax it to play nicely.....
So I should get the UNI Joints on the 2nd and the MAP on the 6th until then I will sort out the spotties I made the cardboard template today now I just have to suss out some steel fit the lightbar on the 96 drink Beer and wait on the post ...................

It's surprising what will make one of these motors run like a turd. Like on mine, I had replaced everything you have and far far more, and what was making it run awful (lumpy, down on power, uneven idle and hesitations) was... the charcoal canister?? When I disconnected the line to that from the intake manifold, it ran perfect again. Well, the new crankshaft sensor did 99% of the make-it-better work, but that charcoal vent line made up that huge 1% difference.

Not suggesting that for yours, just that from all my own reading and experience now, the strangest things make these run better or worse. Just start yanking things off and blocking holes and seeing if ANYTHING changes...
Triple check the vacuum lines, specially the one running to the MAP sensor as it has those hard molded angles and can crack or rub a hole through pretty easily on the underside where you can't see, and then it will totally mess up the sensor.

I just get a feeling it's going to be some devilishly simple thing that you probably don't even consider. Seems to be the XJ life lol

Love the look of those sunny's on the red, making me wish I'd splurged for a set on my black heep. Bigger fish to fry though, my front driveshaft decided to turn into a one man drum band while I was doing a hospital run with my mum, had to yank that... full time 2wd now heh.

Good luck mate, you'll get it. Wish you were closer I'd come give you a hand. Can't say I get out that way much these days, been many years since I was in Blackall with my old man to do a deal on an XY GT someone had stashed away. Back in the good old days when you could go knock on someone's door looking for old cars and not just get a gun pointed at you

yes the XJ life if we didn't like it we wouldn't be here
I feel like I have been playing sensor Roulette there has been so many common symptoms .. but this is my last spin every sensor has been done everything has been checked so I just have to wait and see
now I drove it today hardish to start and you can smell fuel slight miss at idle I would say sluggish I went out past the dump where I went on monday but I did not get up it I cruised around 60k it did not start surging and carrying on
Its the last original sensor left and when they start to fail you get over fueling and shit running So I will say my new theory is the MAP Sensor is on the way OUT! .............

Well its been raining for 2 days and that's a good thing But no good if you want to do things outside So I have been drinking beer and being a internet troll But today I was able to get some stuff done
The Ultimate Jeep Recycler I made the brackets for the 9' kings spotties and I used the hood of the 96 From one XJ to Another
Years ago when I cut the holes for the hood louvers on the 96 I kept the big metal triangles .... years later brackets for the 99 and a new battery box for the rider mower from hell
I have to change plugs and stuff to get everything wired up
I have the zenon bulbs but have not got around to getting a smart harness for the 96 The 99 keeps stealing my $ But then a lot of dudes on facebook xj groups are running the ebay led headlights adr?

None of the LED headlights anyone on the facebook groups are running are ADR approved lol. Aussie XJ owners are mostly a frugal bunch, they'll spend the bare minimum, and just hope the cops don't look too closely. I'm running ebay LED headlights (well, aliexpress, but I found a sole vendor on ebay who sold the exact design I wanted) and they put out stupid amounts of light, but have a weird beam pattern that I just can't get right, so I need to think long and hard on that because a cop will have a field day about it. They've got the E9 markings and DOT but no ADR... I think there's only like 2 or 3 ADR approved LED headlights for these XJ's and they cost a bloody fortune. I wanted the Truck-Lite LED's like the yanks get but they're like, $600? For the ADR approved version. I got the exact same headlights for $150 from no doubt some fella in china and aside from the weird beam pattern, I'm happy. It's basically a case of suck it and see. The cops will either have some fun with you, or not look twice because every damn 4wd has cheap shitty aftermarket headlights now and they just can't be bothered.

Most of the aftermarket headlights don't have the parking bulb in them either, which is really annoying. I ended up buying a few pairs of the little W5W bulb twist-lock things to put bulbs into the redundant front corner 'indicators' - when I bought a set of replacement clears, they came with the holes cut out for just that purpose, where my factory orange ones didn't.

I have round LED’s on my TJ, ADR ‘compliant’. The guy who at the time was selling them on fleabay was very entrepreneurial. He imported them in to the specs he requested, and had a Professor at Qld University run tests against the relevant ADR’s and produce a certificate to show they had passed. I don’t know if that letter would stop the Transport guys defecting me. Probably have a good case in Court but would cost too much. I actually researched the ADR’s on headlights and they are not all that complex. I think from memory one issue with lights off the internet is they are often made for LHD market and the beam throws in a pattern not compliant for RHD ADR. They also need sufficient adjustment to be angled down to the correct level and the high beam also has to be kept below a certain level. All that being said, the Hellas in my TJ were crap, and the $120.00 LED’s mean I can see where I am driving on a dark country road.
