Mitch, sorry I missed your call, I did try to call you back. Ring me again if you can. There are a few things to investigate.

For readers, I wish to point out that I sold my KJ CRD over two years ago, and person that purchased it from me, eventually sold it to Mitch. At the time I sold it, it was in perfect condition and all service was up to date. I cannot comment on current condition or what it has been through since I sold it. My assistance on this problem is simply aimed at informing on possible causes based on my knowledge of the CRD.

Thanks Glen.

Your meticulous maintenance is what got it this far I think. It has never overheated in my ownership and I can’t speak to the in between owners, but I’m sure it will continue for a long time yet.

Glend - I don't think anyone would question either your maintenance regime, or the standard of your KJ when you sold it!

Hey Mitch, how is it going with that leak? Did the additive stop it sufficiently to be called a success?

Hi Glen

Apologies for the slow reply, it is that time of year and I was up in QLD for three weeks (I flew up).

It was a success until recently, I have once again got coolant disappearing at a steady rate. No milky oil, no milky coolant, and no noticeable white smoke.

I am going to pull out the glow plugs and see if I can confirm my fears, pressurising the system and turning over the engine (expecting to see coolant out a glow plug hole). If that comes back positive. It will be a case of finding the location where I can complete the repair as I don't think my garage has the capacity (we shall see).

It was a great lead to ask the Sydney Jeep Club for direction to who might complete the repair, but I just know if I do it myself I can put those labour costs towards the replacement of engine parts. All of this is to be confirmed, I may end up biting the bullet and letting the team out west work their magic.

Needless to say, I am invested and think the vehicle is worth keeping as it is a great example of the remaining KJ crd's. If I had a bigger garage, it would already be underway!

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Mitch

Alright, glow plugs out, coolant shooting out of cylinder 2 (from the front) and glow plug number 2 with some oxidation on the stem so that adds up.

Confirmed leak in the head, gasket or cracked head TBC.
