Default 4.0 Head work in Melbourne?

Anyone have any suggestions for someone who knows the 4.0 well enough to be trusted with my yellow 96?

Old girl is suffering from what I think is recessed valves, still sloggin along but at 350,000kms its due for some attention regardless.

I'm definitely looking to rework the head, will consider other work too depending on price.

Cheers in advance people!

Good machine shops that do auto engines are few and far between as most surviving shops focus on trucks as the work is consistent and reliable. Many car engines in modern vehicles are getting to be throw away so are undesirable work flow.
Stop in any local car dealer workshop any make is ok, and ask for the name of the machine shop they send their work too.
It will likely run to well over $1500 for a full head rebuild so you might want look a buying a new billet head..

I would perform a compression and leakdown test, and if ok, just let it tick along

You may have clogged injectors too

Don't mind dropping $1500 on a rebuild by any means.

The jeep is dual-fuel and runs the same on both lpg and petrol.
Sometimes it idles smooth as anything, but often or if you blip the throttle it misses and chokes like crazy.

Mechanic suggested hydraulic lifters were pumped up with the throttle blip and thats why it was missing - as it was sitting higher and not sealing properly against the recessed valve seats.

North Vic engines in Cobram are one of the largest engine rebuilders in Aust. They rebuild all sorts of heads. there are around 40 guys working in their factory. Have a very good reputation. Barry Marr, the owner is the son of the guy that used to be the national manager for Repco engine rebuilding. BM engines used to be part of Barry's empire, along with GEM. They are not cheap.

might want to check the price and details of an entire new casting from USA

I have heard them say it about the same price as a rebuild
