I've only seen a picture of the offending article, but it looks like the replacement part consists of 3 pieces, two metal pipes and a small section of hose inbetween.
Those people who are advocating to replace the rubber hose with silicone, do you just replace the rubber hose and keep the old metal pipes or buy a new part and then modify it?

Only the hose was replaced on mine, with a heat resistant sleeve over the top and best quality hose clamps, together with new copper washers on the banjo bolt.
I followed the great information previously posted as per IFLYRC and others.
The intake manifold didn't need cleaning.

While checking the valley hose, there's also a range of other hoses not to be ignored. My 2013 doesn't have the valley hose (different turbo cooling system to the '14 up), but at the last major service (100km) mechanic inspected all the hoses while it was in the air. Found EGR coolant hose and the oil cooler return hose had very minor crusting at the clamps, so minor in fact that no trails had formed. He replaced them and showed me the old oil cooler hose which had a 20mm split inside, not visible on the outside but ready to blow - LUCKY.
