No thermostat will cause high fuel consumption and could be causing the engine to run rough too. Let us know how it runs after you put a new one in.

a thermostat would not make a difference on cold start and fuel consumption when everything is at the same temperature on first start.

the car smokes like a steam locomotive as soon as it's started, in winter or summer it's the same, and idles rough from start across all temps (and keeps smoking).

With the smoke and the rough idle it is one of two things...injectors or fuel pump....gonna cost to find which it is...either you do it or pay a mechanic to do it..either way your up for the cost of the 'trial n error' elimination method...
Suggestion...if you have a mate, or can get a wrecker to assist, swap out the injectors...then the pump...when you find which it is...replace with new...easy to say...much more difficult to do.
GOOD LUCK !!!!

ps: Instead of using a 'Jeep Specialist' find a recommended DIESEL shop...much more 'fault' specific

Update:
bought six new bosch injectors(at great expense), new injector bolts and new lambda probe.

Engine runs smooth now, no rough idle, fuel consumption lowered drastically, it still smokes some on start and the smoke still has that very acrid diesel smell even after a spirited driving cycle. Following mechanic advice we're "italian tuning" it to clean up the cylinders/turbo/escape.

engine temp climbs very very fast to operating in mere city blocks, and it stays pegged to the middle of the meter, reports 89.7°C according to OBD.

But i still have several issues pending:

ETC light remains on with no DTC code pending or stored...
hard shudders when reaching 40kph in continuous acceleration, RPMS climb above 2300 but gearbox refuses to move past 2nd gear(tested by using the manual gear limit), i have to lift accelerator and then slam it and gearbox will engage above 2nd

Jeez, slowly getting there, but she is fighting you all the way.
I take it you coded in the injectors properly as each new injector has its own individual serial number.

Cheers,

Cheers,
apparently the shop "already did that" when they installed them, but i haven't been able to double check.

another silly issue i have is that the volume knob is completely non-functional, ¿are there any guides on taking the radio out?, it's probably the stupid encoder that died.

Also, ¿does anyone know a way to get a stock factory ECU firmware to reprogram?, because i have high doubts on the state of meddling the ECU code has when i got the car, and i don't know if "the tuning company" tune checks if the previous state is mint or completely butchered

More updates: the Radio is aftermarket and i did not now that (and it seems nobody caught that up on the pictures) as to repair the knob i took it out and it doesn't has a SINGLE marking/model, plus it's obviously based on android and it has a weird "can bus decoder-kz" dongle/adapter piggybacked between the original conenctor and the radio.

Now i realize that the backup camera is not stock and it's an addon with the radio and need to find out the pinout of a 13-pin din connection on the back that it's proven near impossible to find
