Suppose it depends on what the Dealer Warranty is really, not always a FCA warranty on a 2nd hand job ................ Turbo price is good, a bit over $2000 from a place like Diesel Care....... Certainly something fishy about that engine replacement, it does bear further looking into......... but what a bloody pain...
Hope it all sorts itself out for you...... I suppose if you decide to walk away from the dealer I would have a yarn with All Grand Cherokee and see what they think, down at Springvale and local fellas on here reckon they are the ants pants...

That's all good, just means whoever sold it or traded it in, transferred/ kept their personalised Number Plates

Default Further updates

Finally got in touch with the previous owner and not great news. This vehicle had problems start when it was only 6 months old and was out of action for 6 weeks the 1st time. The owner was not sure what was faulty (not mechanically minded) but all the electronics went berserk. He had it serviced at the required intervals by Jeep dealers and had a few small problems until the middle of 21 when the motor blew. FCA were going to replace the motor under warranty but he declined and wanted his money back, after a short time of arguing they agreed as long as he did not post anything on social media.
Now I have to try to find out from VicRoads if the vehicle has had a VIN change as the result of a new motor being fitted ( which I thought that they do not do but I could be wrong) If it is still the original VIN then that means the motor was not replaced and only repaired.

Now for all the posts I have seen replying to my original post, so everyone knows, the car was serviced as required, it still had nearly 2 years of FCA warranty, it has never towed anything, I only did about 3000Ks in 3 months mostly 100Ks at a time on the Hume Freeway and it was not due for it's next service for another 6000Ks.
FCA are not honouring the warranty because they say it is my fault, I have not had access to the vehicle in over 6 weeks.
I am in Kilmore Vic and the vehicle is in Bundoora, so taking it anywhere to get it looked at is not easy.
I have now engaged a lawyer and it looks like the bun fight is ON!

The best thing you can do is lawyer up and don’t argue about manufacturer warranty argue that Jeep is not complying with Australian consumer law. It will be your strongest position.

VIN number will always be the same...to my knowledge it cannot be changed due to it being the only way to track vehicle history such as a Stat write off, theft or other issue.

Complete engines are often replaced but the new engine numbers not always updated on the records.

It is a bit out of line to refuse you access to your own vehicle...they cannot legally with hold your vehicle unless of course there is an outstanding account unpaid...then they can through Consumer Law.

The last thing anybody needs is a protracted Legal argument over personal property...as noted above the argument for restitution would be based on the product not meeting consumer expectations...but then...it was also a second hand vehicle.
If bought privately with no compulsory Dealer Statutory Warranty that will be a stumbling block,

The issue I think may also revolve around the replacement of the original engine...who did it and was it a new Mopar "crate" engine with warranty? If it was in fact a second hand engine fitted as is often the case, then you may be on your own

I too am really sorry to read of your predicament, it should not happen these days...absolute best of luck...hope you do get a win...

I am still waiting for a reply from VicRoads, the current engine number matches the VIN, so if the VIN can not be changed then it must be the original "Blown" Engine. I will not be posting much more about this as it is in the hands of a lawyer and I don't want to forewarn other parties as to the other information I have.
