Sorry, I should've been more specific - the
issue (particularly the media coverage) is a bit of a storm in a teacup, from the perspective of how rare failure is in Australia (and even in the US) - as far as I'm aware there have been no instances of failure in Aus, and it's believed that the US diesel grade is partly to blame.
The consequences themselves, should they arise, can be very significant - as your mate experienced with the crankshaft sensor (definitely glad I got that recall done).
I'm happy to drag Jeep's customer service at any opportunity, but the parts supply issue really is out of Stellantis/Jeep/FCA's hands, as it's a Bosch problem. I know that means jack all for customers, but no action can really be expected of Jeep in this particular instance until Bosch can guarantee supply. The only other option would be exploring alternative fuel pump suppliers, but that could have packaging and compatibility issues, and would have to come out of Stellantis' bottom line, unless they can reach an agreement with Bosch to foot the bill.
