there are guys in the US who have clocked up over 300,000 MILES with these motors!
I got 2 , one at 50,000km and the other at 180,000km
In some ways the 180,000km one feels better, revs better.

As mentioned, servicing is your friend !

Its unlikely that that the bare motor will be first to ware out. More likely that some of the ancillaries will go first. Its surprising that more head failures are not reported. Alloy heads tend to be an issue with diesels.

Our 2014 JGC Diesel failed No.1 big end bearing Oct 2022 near Toowoomba, 65k klms and had regular servicing and correct maintenance. The dealer in Moorooka put a new long engine in for what I believe a very reasonable price and JCA would not come to any Goodwill. I wasn’t very happy at the time but a good outcome none the less, just hurts the pocket a lot. I still think it is a fantastic car and one of the best tow vehicles out there.

He's talking about the petrol kids............. not the oil burner but really 300,000 km should be a breeze in both engines so long as they get driven 25K km a year or more means long engine life tootling around town for little distance kills engines, brand means nothing.
