The major problem is some of these oil suppliers are still stating 5w30 in their info !By the number of these motors now failing in WKs I would say this may have something to do with it.Plus FCA NOT putting the 5w40 sticker on the filler cap etc. Some motors would have had five years of running on 5w30 before FCA
woke up that main bearings were being destroyed!

OK, Everyone has scared me a bit with this 30 number.

I'm changing to the 10W-40 and replacing the filter (Which I do every time anyway) and will do it tomorrow.

I do an oil change every 10,000 Km. Even though the Oil Life thingy on the dashboard usually says I'm only at 50% when I do the change.

Which concerns me that FCA, thinks 20,000 Km is OK between oil changes.

They probably had bearing issues with people who ran 5W-30 for 20,000 Km under heavy loads and the oil couldn't maintain it's properties.

Also my bonnet gas struts have died, anyone know where to get generic ones at a good price ?

The only place to get decent gas struts for anything is this mob, any gas strut you need they have it and talk english and answer phones and emails, been using them for many years.....https://www.gasstrutguys.com.au/

Don't panic about your oil, regular changes along with filters and if the stuff is at least C3 it will be good as gold.............. I reckon I could run my oil for 20K and I doubt it would be a problem, though I would change the filter at 10K, better oil filter system, larger filter and it would be good for 20K easy.......

You Lot are bloody handy to Know.

I've got the new Gulf Western 10-40W oil and also the new gas strut for the bonnet is in the post.

I just got back from Alice Springs via The Great Central RD and the Jeep held up really well.

The only thing that broke was the windscreen washer bottle. It leaks out to about halfway.

I will try and glue it somehow.

I have the same problem robbo....just remove it when you do the service....simply remove the air box and access from there is easy...pull it out and seal the crack/leak with any type of plastic sealant....no pressure in there so 'woteva' will do...as long as its a waterproof sealant naturally....dont shop for a new bottle unless you have the defib paddles charged and somebody to jam em on the illustrated points to revive you....spent 5 days in ICU after getting a price myself...well...not really....jus sayin...bloody exxy suckers and wreckers arent keen to sell em either....obviously a 'weak point' that is in demand

Use an epoxy resin, eg; 5 minute water proof araldite. Heaps to choose from at Bunnings lightly sand it to give the epoxy something to adhere to, even put a patch over it, using a piece of old white ice cream container to strengthen the split, use it to reinforce any weak spots so it doesn't happen again.
Don't be in a rush to fill it back up. At the end of the day you'll be proud as punch with your repair, knowing you've just saved $500, for something you can't even see. GOOD Chance to give the neck a good clean so it looks brand new, on the topic of Bonnet Gas Strut don't be tempted to get a real strong (nm) as it will tear the bonnet mount out over time as the bonnet is light weight Aluminium
