So what happens with these systems that require a phone app when there's no phone signal ? Blank Screen ?

Think I'll stick with my Navman....

in answer to drovers question. from my experience with an apple CarPlay equiped vehicle ( pioneer) if you key in your destination while in a signal area the map is cached and you don't loose it once out of cell phone signal area, however if you try to program a destination while out of range it won't work.
anyway that my experience.

i replaced my original unit when it white screened on me, coincedently at the same time i was chasing parasitic drain that would flatten the battery if the vehicle was left to sit for more that 3 days.

after the factory head unit was swapped out no more problems
just sayin

Google Maps also has the ability to download off line maps that the user defines.

I assume these products are the same / similar to what you've got?

fitting the small circuit board was pretty easy if you are used to using a screw driver.
The jeep 8.4 radios are pretty easy to pull apart.
its in 3 sections, when you get to the bottom circuit board you unclip 2 ribbon wire clips, replace those plug points with the new circuit board and wire plugs, plug the existing radio wire plugs into the new board , put it back together.
There is a video showing somone doing the instal.

Thanks for the info, I purchased a unit from The Fitting Bay, went well, just trying to workout why the Bluetooth cuts in and out, not sure if it is the iPhone or the unit, usb seems to be ok… have you removed the uConnect Bluetooth ?
