Default low range compression

i went for a great sunday drive with kyro in his diesel xj and bev in his grand cherokee. we got kyros front sway bar off and he was extremely impressed by the results. now what was i impressed with? the downhill ability of the diesel.

i say this because we ventured up a long hillclimb, and the only way down was back along a track that was quite steep, sull of rocks and the dirt was very powdery. the hill lasted about 100 mtrs or more.

half way down, me in low range and gingerly on the brakes, the rig started to slide to the right, so i turned into the slide so the back wouldnt whip around on me. all that stopped me what a eroded wash out along the right side of the track, i rekon i slid for about 30 mtrs, and the speed it got up to, even pumping the brakes didnt help. the tyres werent locked, it was just so loose.

no the diesel, it didnt go down the same track after i did that, but every other downhill its did, it did with ease.

so my prob. how do i get it slower, lower gears?

The only way is lower diffs like 4.11 or 4.56 depending on your tyre size and or 4 to 1 Tera low range gears for the transfer case. Have you re-geared since your bigger tyres as you will be worse than a stock one down hill other wise. Our stock low range is quite low at 2.7 to 1 but 4 to 1 is even better. :D
