Default TD Fuel Consumption

Hi,

Trip computer claims somewhere between 8 and 12 l/100km. Normal driving on road sees 9 to 10/100k
Off road around 10 to 12 depends on what you are doing. Of course low range and sand see a lot worse, still heaps better than any petrol 4wd I travel with. Most off road trips include plenty of on-road so I av around 11 per 4wd outing.

Best fuel economy was 8.1 from Sydney to Noosa travelling at around 100km/hr av.

Tank fill up matches extremely close trip computer estimates so figures are close to real.

I just had on-car injector clean at 100K made a big improvement in power and economy. Air filter cleanliness is critical. Similarly make sure fuel filter is replaced every so often.

Fuel consumption goes up sharply if speed goes over 110km/hr. Tyres over 30" seem to affect fuel too.

I made my own snorkel which I think on average made fuel cons slightly better.

I have 120L tank and always get over 1000km per tank, usually around 1200km.

If your friend is buying a diesel, be sure the engine, turbo etc are okay. Diesel parts are much more expensive than petrol engine. Theory is they are more reliable? See the thread questioning whether diesel XJs are a lemon. Check common diesel faults ( all makes ) such as turbo oil seals etc etc.

Just a comment.... isn't buying a 4wd on fuel economy grounds contradictory? I bought diesel because it has bags of low rev torque and excellent engine braking downhills, the fuel economy is just a bonus.

Good Luck.
