Hi,

Just considering a trial of synth oil in the Xj diesel engine.

Anyone have any experience or opinions to share before I try it?

Synthetic oils, if used correctly, are great for a diesel. The Navy has now moved to synthetic oils for most of there hi speed diesels. Mineral oils had the requirement to change the oil every 250 running hours. Now with synthetic, they change the oil every 750 running hours. This is also backed up from the manufacture. ie MTU.

One thing to remember you will need to flush the engine with an oil flush. This will "wash" all the old oil out, well so they say, it may take a few oil changes to do so.
