I can confirm it isn't a left hand thread it is just plain tight.

Worth while marking the nut and shaft so you line the nut back up when tightening to ensure you don't go upsetting preloads etc.

One thing you can try.. and DON"T start the engine!!! is..
1)Get the breaker bar (not ratchet)
2)Put said bar/socket onto pinion.

Now comes the tricky bit.. You have to work out whether the jeep must go forward to undo or backwards..
Once you've worked out which way it goes to undo.. (hence no pipe on the bar) is this....

3)Tie the end of the breaker bar and pipe to somewhere on the chassis.. preferably so it's pushing up against the chassis (leaf or lca?)
4) secure the pipe to the chassis/lca/leaf and ROLL the jeep forward using the tyres for leverage.

You should hear it pop.. if not.. you'll hear the breaker bar snap!

For all those wondering why you don't leave the pipe pushing against the floor, reason against this is, the floor will move from under the jeep.. possibly pulling the socket off the nut.. rounding said nut.. and Flocking it up even more!

Hope this helps!

According to my FSM the rear pinion nut is tightened to 160ft/lbs!!!...That's seriously tight..
Used to stall 2000ft/lb 1" drive rattle guns and continue with big socket and 8 'bar...that was tight

Anyway, interesting suggestion 01XJ. To stop it starting, Would you remove the rotor from the dizzy or disco the main lead? is there a simplar way?

if you have access to oxy gear then cut yourself a rectangle with arm that fits over the yoke on your pinnion to anchor the yoke then get a socket and bar and a B F handle(pipe) it removes very easily also dosen't damage the gear faces

When i first had a go i had a rachet+ socket+ two feet of pipe dropped some air out of the tyres and turned the wheels and moved the jeep
( while hand brake was on and engaged 4wd ingear )
So rang up my bro got him around and got him to hold the yoke with a BIG pipe wrench still spun the wheels arrr.....go to forum

Thanks for the help but it looks like I'll have to get the professionals on to it.
