A manufacturers "recommendation" on towing capacities and restrictions is usually derived not only from engineering design/ratings, but the vehicle laws in place where the vehicle is manufactured. As we all know, the ol' Jeep isn't Aussie born 'n' bred.

The ADR's as well as Vehicle/Road Regulations for Australia and the relevant states come into place and sometimes will take precedence over Manufacturer recommendations. For instance, a trailer in the NT MUST have brakes if it designed to carry more than 450kg, regardless of how much you plan to actually tow or what type of vehicle you're towing with.

There are cases where our Laws are stricter that a vehicle's recognised capacity. If you're inspected by Police or Transport Authority Officers, their first point of inspection will be if the vehicle and trailer meet Legislated Guidelines, and THEN they may check manufacturer ratings.

So, please check the requirements of Law, not just what JEEP says you shalt do..
Cheers

The guys in the states have said rear discs make no differance in stopping. Some have found they are not as good as drum. The main differance is drum brakes can bog down with mud in them where the discs will clean them self.

I haven't found my brakes to be that bad. Maybe mine is too new or maybe they upgraded something but my brakes work well pull up in plenty time. ABS would be nice

They work well with tires close to the standard size. but once you start going up in sizes its a different story.
