Thanks again.

Marxy. Craigs hut was one area I had hoped too see so that is great. Still trying to buy Hema high country map up here. Might have to order it online & wait. Racv maps O.K. & downloaded some good guides on track closures & reopening from Vicparks the other nite.

Goodol55. Your right. I used that site to plan our Birdsville trip & would recommend it. also found the RACQ site good. You could dial in preferred driving times & it would recommend stops for lunch etc. Sometimes had to be creative on both sites & request to travel via certain towns or split trip into short journey requests to get the required results. all good fun in the planning stages.
Cheers

Wrench - let me know if you have trouble getting the maps and I'll grab them down here and send them up. There is a govt bookshop 5 mins from my office. Vicmaps Buller / Stirling is also good to get.

Hi Marxy
Thanks for the offer.
I managed to get the hema map on the weekend. Having to rethink my strategy due to time limitations. Originally thought of Echuca - Mt stirling - Omeo - Tom Groggin then back north, but it looks like that might be pretty rough going.
Also wondering about water crossings. For this trip with the trailer, if theres anything over 18" deep then I gets a waterlogged bed that night. Be disappointing if we just have to stick to main roads tho it may keep the h/brake happy.
Any Thoughts
David

Sorry for the delay wrench - I have been told to lay off ausjeep by work. They log all our internet usage - and guess what mine looked like!! Anyway - King River on the north side of Stirling etc can vary in depth, with the approx summer dpeth being around 60cm (at the deep points) but less at others- but with a good driving surface you get a good bow wave and you are in and out. Don't know much about the trialer leakage bit though. Don't know the other rivers that well.
Call Terry Kingston at Whitfield DNRE on (03) 5729-8266, he knows the area and levels very well. He will return you call.

Thanks Guys.
Head off today & I really appreciate all the help & suggestions. Sounds lika a great place & looking forward to seeing even such a minute part of it.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas & wishing you a very happy New Year.
So if you see a Green Grand from QLD towing a camper trailer & looking lost give a big Jeep wave. It may be me.
Happy new Year
David
