Hi Kate, about your immobiser concern,(if you have the black T.R.W. rectangular remote). When you unlock the vehicle,i'm pretty sure that the remote sends a radio signal to the receiver (in the roof) this signal is converted to a message than transmitted (over the communication lines) to the cluster & jeep engine computer. The computer needs to see this "o.k to start" message or it will start & cut out. This function is programmed when new & i am not aware that you can change this back. Best to take it back to your local dealer.

How many keys and rings and metal dangly things do you have on your ignition key set? If your Jeep has the "sentry key" watsit that works with the immobiliser, then the amount of metals between it and the sensor in the colum and around it will interfere with the imobiliser.
That short fabric lanyard thing with the mini caribiner from the Jeep shop will solve the drama, it spaces the rest of the keys and smeg far enough away to not interfere with the sensor.

Default Strangest Alarm Problem this morning

Just going on from this thread. The stragenst thing happened with the alarm on my 99XJ this morning. I have a factory fitted alarm with central locking, went to unlock the car this morning as I do every morning, beep beep, all was fine, I sat in the car, was about to put the key in the ignition and all of a sudden the alarm starts beeping, I jumped out, shut the door, locked and unlocked it using the remote a number of times and the alarm kept going off, waited a few minutes outside the car to see if it would quiet down itself...no stopping. Neighbours becoming increasing annoyed as it was 7:15am. So I jumped in and put the key in and started the car (thinking it wasnt goint to start due to the immobiliser being activated with the alarm) but as soon as I turned the key the alarm stopped and everything was normal.

Cant work out for the life of me what happened, it was a cold morning and pretty dewy but nothing out of the ordinary for a Melbounre autumn morning. Will see if it happens again tonight on my way home from work.

Anyone had anything happen like that or can I put it down to one of those mysterious Jeep things???

Myne has just stuffed up completely..

I press unlock and nothing happens.. I have replaced the batteries in the remote and its still no good..

I called up DC (not a dealer) in Perth and they say the stock immobilizer cant be disabled!?!? .. I have spoken to a few dealers and they wont do it either.. but I have spoken to Deering auto electrics and Im going to meet them in a hour and they are pretty confident they can disable it..

Given that Jeep cant do it I have doubts but itll be great if they can.. there goes my plans for 4x4ing on the weekend if they cant. In fact if they cant fix it Im totally rooted cause I gotta drive home (1600kms) to go back to work in a weeks time..

This sucks.. only yesterday I took a remote I bought from ebay to the dealer to get them to program it up but they wouldnt do it cause they think they can only be programmed once..

If the deerings auto electrics guy can disable it Ill see if I can get info from him on how he did it.
