Default Fan belt noise

Got this noise coming from the fan belt area. It sounds like the belt but Im not sure. Most of the noise is around the power steering pump. Just scoping some items here like cost to repair bearing in the power steering unit, fan belt cost or if any one has had the same problem.

Im thinking of changing the fan belt first, and if thats not it then I will have that spare fan belt I should have when out bush.

Thanks lads.

I had the same thing
Take the belt off and check the play in the power steering pump shaft sounds more like the bearing in the pump is going west and not the belt
with the pump shaft check for end float and well as slop if it moves then replace it before you have pump s**t itself like mine did
Also check power steering fluid if it red then it is not the correct type. You can only get correct fluid from Jeep dealer (check out the fluids compasison charts at Auto stores) Proper stuff is clear and made by Mopar
(Castrol, Mobil and all others do not have a compatible for it)
If fluid is red then your pump will s**t itself as it is not proper quality for your pump. Just coz a bottle at AutoBarn and others says power steering fluid does not mean it is automatically suitable for the Jeep pump.

Thanks Grant, will check it today.

I should ask, was this an easy job to replace the bearing? What did it cost you?

I got another pump (second hand for $200.00) pump is a sealed unit and cannot get kits for them out here (power steering specialist want $300.00 to overhaul them) a new pump is worth about same cost if not a bit less ($290.00 from memory)

Takes roughly 1 hour to change pump you need a 10 mm socket and ring spanner
socket should be 3/8th inch drive and use a 3 inch extension to undo bolts through pulley
Just let go the belt and swap pumps
there are two types of pump main difference is where the adjustment is for the belt tensioner if belt is tensioned by alternator then it is different to the belt that has auto tensioner.
Take old pump with you and compare

Sorted.

Took the fan bet off and checked the all the pulley's. Not problems at all. Called Jeep for a new fan belt, $77 + GST. Called Repco, yep they got one for $67. Got the Repco one and noise is gone. Keep the old one for the bush.

Part number from Repco. Its a Dayco Poly-rib 6PK2275.

Interesting Grant about the fluid. Are you sure that this was the cause of your failure? Most often it is because the fluid never gets changed and as there is no filter in the system, any wear particules will circulate causing more wear and so on.
I have fitted an inline transmission fliter on the return line and have never had a pump failure even though I run red power steering fluid that I change every 18 months.
