Dual Battery

I'm not sure about a dual battery system for my 2001 WG V8. Im going to trail a camper trailer (hire) from Sydney to SA for a few weeks. Will a dual battery set up fit under the bonet as it seems too tight to me. The standard/original battery is a big fella and leaves no room. I suspect 2 smaller ones fitted east/west would be the go, but would that power all that is required and do they exist with a new cradle? Any recommendation? Thanks

you can do a dual battery with smaller batteries under the bonnet...

why do you need a dual battery for towing the camper? is your V8 battery powered?!?!?!?!

dual is good if you are planning on hooking up lots of electric suckers in ya jeep.
for one trip you might find it a very deep pocket excersice...

there might be other ways to hook up 2 batteries, think chrispy is thinking about it.

alternatively you can drop in at Suburban4wd, my WJ lives there and maybe the boy can should you what they did wiht mine.

I take your point... but I ask, as I wish to run a fridge & lights and ensure that when I wish to start - the jeep will turn over. Unless Im mistaken, the main battery will soon run dry if the vehicle sits idle and I run these accessories. For me to convince the missus that towing a camper can be luxurious ???? I need all the mod cons available. By the way - any one recomend camper hire that has everyting?
I haven't gone anywhere extensive yet with the jeep but wish to do it right in some form of comfort and with least worry. (else she who need to be obeyed) will whinge.

I fitted mine in the rear cargo compartment in a plastic box. It secures to the floor beside the r.h.r. wheel arch between the rear seat & my fridge. 8mm power & earth cables run under the kick panels & thru firewall to the battery. I am using a redarc auto solenoid to switch the positive & fitted an anderson plug under the rhr 1/4 trim & just forward of the CD changer console so it can be removed when not needed.

I'm going to stick my deep-cycle battery in.............. the bullbar!

I have the Outback Interiors roller drawer system in the back, so there is no room for a battery back there.

I have the ARB bar which only comes out as a winch model, and there is a cavernous area under the access panel at the front. It's close to the action where it's needed, and I won't in the forseeable future bother with a winch at all. In all the years I've had a winch on our Patrol, we've only ever used it to extract others anyway.

I'll be using a pair of slightly smaller gel-type batteries and have them connected in parallel - and then on-connect them to the charging system via a spare Piranha DB-105S electronic isolator. The weight of the two batteries is still way less than the winch weight if one was fitted - and I'd be putting in a 10,000 pounder if I did.

Only problem is that you need the ARB bar to do this. I'm thankful I have it because it has the meatiest recovery points either side... which is why I bought the bar in the first place. The other reason is for animal protection - we go down to Cooma nearly every weekend, and I've seen many, many roo strikes at the time of night we go down. It's also a damn good place to stick my LightForce 240 spotties :P

Depending on the trailer you get, some have an onboard battery of their own, and trickle charge via the plug to the Jeep or a solar panel or seperate charger.
Otherwise sooper cheap have a battery box like a boat with a charger built in, for a temporary set up you could drop one of these in the rear?

That battery in the trailer sounds good . Does anyone know/recommend a place in sydney (or near) that hires these camper trailers
