Default swaybar disconnect

Hi all, I have just lifted my xj cherokee two inches and have been thinking about swaybar diconnects, actually I have been thinking about making them myself, I have never actually seen any in the flesh but from what I can make out, kits from Rubicon express and the like disconnect both sides, is this correct? personally I don't see the need for both sides to disconnect, does anyone have experience or ideas on this
Thanks
Glenn

Not sure if you need disco's both side sorry but heres a article on making your own. The cost / effort difference between doing one side or two sides is pretty small so I would do both anyway.

You need to disconnect both sides otherwise the swaybar can hit the coil etc if it is not pulled up out of the way. If the left side goes down it will pull the swaybar down on both sides, if the right is going up it will hit the swaybar which is coming down.

You could just put wingnuts on the swaybar links instead of the standard nuts. I drilled and pinned mine and put wingnuts on and it takes about 3 mins to disconnect and about the same to put them on again.

I also did the same to the bolt mounted on the axle. The only problem is my links are too short now I have 4" of lift.

Cheers
Steve

hey steve any pics on the jeep? once disconnected do you fit somewhere or let em dangle? im interested in doing this?

another question, has anyone tried removing the swaybar alltogether?
if so, how has it effected on road handling ?
ie.
1) not much, slight increase in body role;
2) be careful going around corners, but manageable
3) shit loads ya mad to drive it on the road?

thx in advance
cheers

I'll grab some pics on the weekend with them on the Jeep. I take them off bottom and top and stick them it a little bag I have for all the bits so none get lost. I hook the swaybar up with a really short ocky strap, one end hooked in the eye of the bar and another through an existing hole in the inner guard. Never had a problem with it.

I'd never leave it off for the road, with the lift and increased COG it feels pretty bad with the swaybar disconnected and hooking into corners, especially when braking at the same time.

Cheers
Steve

You dont want to drive on the black top without the swaybar connected. It is quite dangerous and there is an insurance issue to I think.
I lost a nut and couldnt reconnect after a day out never want to break whilst going around a corner again.... scary...
