Talking Possible New Rims and Tyres

I am currently running 15 x 1 0 rims and 33 x 12.5 procomp tyres.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but running 15 x 10 rims puts a lot of pressure on the bearings and axles without serious upgrades to said equipment.

I am considering eith 16.5 or 17 inch x 8 or 9 inch with a 34 x 10.5 LTB tyre.

I am currently running the full traction 4inch s/arm lift.

I am after peoples views or advice on tyre and wheel selection prior to doing any purchases. I am trying to go for a slightly narrower rim to take a bit of the pressure of my bearings.

Mate any of the black teflon coated rims would be awesome, but have you checked the price on them? I was looking at getting the 16x8's (second one of your pics).

As for tyres - sounds like you're not going for XT's again... but can i ask why you are opting for 34x10.5? this sounds like an odd size to me.

anything above the started tyre size is gonna put extra stress on your bearings, the rim size isnt really the problem, its the weight of the tyre and stress the is provied from that extra wieght the causes the wheel bearings to die.

if you want to get around this problem i would suggest a WARN front hub conversion to strengthen up the front end rather than going for a bigger tyre.

You will find it nearly impossible to find tyres for a 16.5" rim unless you go to a specialist importer.

As nice as the teflon rims look, I would be nervous about driving them anywhere near rocks where they could get scratched up because there's no patching scratched teflon

And besides . . . . if nothing sticks to teflon, how do they get teflon to stick to the rim?

I understand that any increase increases pressure, but surely a 10 inch wide rim would have a lot larger offset than a 8 inch rim and work the bearing harder?

I'm looking at 34x10.5's as they will fit on a 8 or 9 inch rim, i'm trying to decrease the width of the rim past the centre line. i don't want to lose tyre height but just lose width.

Tigger, the only reason i'm not going XT's again is they don't have the narrower tyre in a 33 inch or greater.

Like i said in the original post, i'm after ideas so any help taken.

I agree about 16.5's, i'm swaying more for 17 x 8's.

I've found some package deals at 4wheelparts.com, as follows:

35x12.5x17 Superswamper Trxus on 17x8 A/R Mojave Teflons or
34x10.5x17 Super Swamper LTB on 17x8 A/R Victor Teflons.

Comments?
