Yeah we see quite a few where the gauge is out by quite a bit :S but really it would be helpful to know where your gauge sits

I have a multimeter with a thermal probe on it which I place on the temperature sensor itself at the back of the head. This give you a good idea what the real temperature is. The other way is if you have a good thermostat, just let the engine idle and once the temperature gets close to 85-90*, hold your hand on the top hose which will still be cold as below the thermostat opening temp. You will suddenly feel the water race through it and heat up when the thermostat open and quickly look at the temperature gauge. It should be around the 95* mark if both your gauge and thermostat is accurate. To prove one or the other you can always drop the thermostat in a pan of water along with a thermometer and note the temperature it opens at which should be close to 96*C or 195*F. Never use any other temperature one!!!

Yeah I was worried about mine running "hot" at 100C when I first bought it.

Now that I've done several hours in low range, and done peak hour traffic crawls and she only moves a few degrees hotter than 100C until the thermo fan kicks in and I know I don't have cooling system issues
