Well, where do I start.
We brought our 1996 XJ back to Australia from NZ in 2000. We did the sums and economically it seemed to make sense but beware you will have a vehicle that has a VIN plate fitted clearly identifying it as a privately imported vehicle. Yo may have trouble getting a reasonable selling price for the vehicle when it comes time to move on and may lose any advantage you had in the beginning. We still have ours and so have not had to face this yet and we plan to keep it for some time yet so may only lose a few $100's instead of $1000's.
The main issue you need to consider is the fact that you have to put up with all the beurcratic bull###t and incompetent f###ups at every step of the way. From the shipping company who is happy to let it sit in a warehouse because they cant get the papaerwork right. To the VIN plate maker who gets the numbers wrong, not to mention the RTA crims who make you pay money to their mate at the garage across the road to stamp a new engine number on the block because they think a couple of numbers were badly stamped in the factory (I don't want to think what they may have done with an original Jeep engine number but it may have been useful).
Today we are enjoying our Jeep and its a good story over a few beers but at the time it was a nightmare of wasted time and frustrations.
Think again!
