Hey Mate,
If you get some clunking on full lock turns from the front end then your CV's are stuffed but if not then changing the CV Boots is not expensive if you do it yourself, just messy, a Subaru brumby front outer CVboot is the same and from Repco is only $22, Top and Bottom Rad hoses from Coventry Auto will give you change from $70. My rear diff has a bit of a leak around the plug but hell it's a stupid plastic thing, no problem. Oil under engine is pretty normal so long as it's not heaps and heaps shouldn't be a worry. Check out the sills and front axle if they have a few biffs then it has been used a bit. A ZJ is pretty good to work on and if you look and shop around it is no dearer than most other 4x4's, if you have to go to Jeep to get it fixed, like other dealers have a big bank book. Basically when you get in and plant the foot she should get up and go thru gears smooth as silk, if it doesn't then something is not right, turning hard and fast takes a bit to get used to at first but front alighnment is a pain with them and will scrub front tyres a bit but that is the nature of the beast. Mine is great and will get another 10 yrs out of it I reckon.

Hey Drover,

Cheers, will have a look at doing the cv boot asap, and the top/bottom radiator hoses also: at Coventry autos, are they Jeep specific or generic?

Cheers

Axman,
The top and bottom hoses are listed at Coventry for a ZJ/G about $19 for one and $47 for the other and they are made in Aust, the CV Boot is Repco part number 200-035, I'm pretty sure it's a front outer on a Brumby, I bought some new ones for my Brumby at the same time and can't find my list of part numbers, so measure the old one to make sure. I found a catalogue online for CV Boots and noticed that the ZJ had the same part number as the Brumby and a couple of other vehicles and since Repco didn't list the ZJ I got it a Brumby one, measures the same and fits okay, been on it for about a year no problems. Don't buy a new sump plug (plastic) for the rear diff from Jeep as they are $21, but haven't found a cheaper place to get one yet. Have fun.

Drover.

G'day All,

Have now bought the Jeep (at last), thanks all for the advice given, as it has helped heaps, thought I'd post some pics. She'll be going in for a service this week at Footo's, as there is the drive line whine whilst cruising when the foot is off the accelerator Also, the cv will have to be looked at, as sometimes when turning is fully on at low speed, there is a clunk . Anyhoo, that seems to be about all that is wrong with it, so hopefully will take her up to Landcruiser park in the next week or two.

Once again, cheers all
