Default You won't believe this

As you don't hear a business practice like this very often, I thought I share this experience with you.

About 4 weeks ago I bought a Gunyah awning which was mounted on the side of the truck on the roof rack.

One week later the truck went up in flames - with the awning still attached.

After going of weeks of negotiating with the insurance payout and settlement has finally been made.

But .. of course the awning wasn't covered.

We removed the awning on Monday and assessed the damage. The PVC bag was gone and the canvas had taken some damage.

So ... in an attack of "there is no harm in asking" I called the number listed on their web page and talked to Ockie and explained my situation and asked how much it would be to replace the bag and the canvas.

The shocking reply was "Look ... you already bought the awning and I don't want to make money out of your situation. I'd be happy to fix this at our cost price". The price he gave me was less than a 5th of the initial purchase price) (that is materials and work to fix. As you can imagine I had to ask twice if I had understood him correctly.

I was expecting MUCH more.

I have never heard in a business environment the words "I don't want to make money out of your situation" followed by a matching action. I think it is awesome. Specially knowing that his business is very busy and he didn't really need to do it.

I had other instances where I had something damaged and had to replace it and never was I offered replacement at cost price.

So sometime next week or the week after I will go to his factory and he will fix the damage.

Good news mate, and good for you for telling everyone when a trader does something nice like this.

In my line of work, I only hear when the trader does something bad.....

How did you go with the stolen winches ?? any luck finding them ?

I had a few people mentioning things and they were checked out. I don't think that they resulted in anything, so you can keep looking for the cheap winches

I'm in sales and do this type of thing every now and then. Not saying I'm any kind of saint but if someone's genuinely having a hard time I'll go easy on the price. Swings and round-a-bouts. What you lose here you gain there..
