Default Bigger tyres on CRD

Im about to order a TF 2.5 BB for my JK and will be getting bigger tyres (33's) soon after. Ive never put bigger tyres on a 4x4 before, I know the speedo will be out and the drive wont be the same.

I have a 6 speed CRD, will the bigger tyres mean Im changing gears less or more?

Im guessing it will rev lower, currently revving 2600ish in 6th at 110km/hr.

You'll rev lower BUT you'll change gears more.

Bigger tyres = heavier wheel, = more torque required to turn it (and a whole heap of other issues, most of which are fine)

the more torque to turn the wheel, combined with less torque from lower revs at speed will result in more gear changes, and holding in lower gears for longer.

Will result in increased fuel consumption.

Stock for the Sports 6spd so 3.21. I thought the crd came with different ratios but the sales brochure seems to indicate they dont. Would the difference with 33's be huge?

acetj - from this forum put 33's and a 2.5 inch lift on his jeep and said it pretty much killed the power with the larger tyre (mind you he has the 3.8L pet, you might be ok with the extra torque of the crd...) though I would tend to go for 32'' max with a 3.21 ratio. I plan on getting some 32's and a 2'' full traction spacer lift soon. it lifts the front 2'' and the rear 1.5'' which balances out the factory rake and corrects any added weight up front (ie. bumper / winch / or hemi ) I would like 33's but I dont wanna have to fork out extra for a regear. Any other thought's?

Mate sorry to easy drop, You've seen my 32' muddies dave on my CRD, (GRAND) The power difference is bugger all they ve got that much Torque you don't notice it! They drive so much better with bigger boots (imho) my mrs even commented how much she liked the newer tyres..

You didn't buy a CRD to race you got it for Grunt and 4x4ing..... I reckon you'll love it with bigger boots a ratio change is not a bad idea just see how you go once you put them on! Good luck

I would recommend a Suspention lift.. Much better for off road especialy cause you got a short wheel base as much travel you can get will help.

32's is a good size for most med to hard, keeps the car street friendlyer too.. the bigger the tyres the harder to turn ect... But 33's do look sweet and will get your diffs up that little bit more
