I have been reading this thread with interest. As the list of XJ major mods gets shorter (still got extra lift to do [on its way], Long range tank, rear bar carrier (in design), locker, and intercooler overhaul) I thought I would add a change in ratios. I have recently fitted 275/70 r15 (can some one tell me what they are in inches?) and thought of diff ratios. At the moment I am happy with the performance of the TD on and off the road with current ratios. I didn't want to really change any of this so was looking at changing the low range ratios so that L1 is a real crawler, L2 a little quicker and L3 about where low two is currently at. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

It may be a 6 or so months away but want to get this right.

Thought of diff ratios while getting locker done but as I said I like the current performance.

i have a fix for the inter cooler blocking up
NOTE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERY STEP IS DONE TO EXCACTALY AS STATED
OR CATASTOPIC ENGINE FAILURE WILL OCCUR!!!!!!!!
1 PARK XJ ON CLEAN CONCRETE DRIVE

2 WITH ENGINE TURNED OFF DISCONNECT INTER COOLER HOSE FROM INLET MANIFOLD. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE KEYS IN YOU POCKET

3 DISCONNECT INTERCOOLER HOSE FROM TURBO AND PLUG HOSE.

4 TAKE 1 BOTTLE PINK HANDY ANDY AND POUR DOWN THE HOSE THAT GOES FROM THE INTER COOLER TO THE INLET MANIFOLD, SO HANDYANDY GOES INTO TOP OF INTER COOLER.

5 TAKE BOILING WATER AND POUR DOWN THIS HOSE TILL IT COME OUT THE TOP OF HOSE.

6 LEAVE 5 -10 MINS THEN CLIMB UNDER FRONT OF XJ AND REMOVE BOTTOM HOSE FROM INTER COOLER BE CAREFULL AS WATER DETERGENT MIX COULD BE STILL VERY HOT!!!!!! AND LET DRAIN.

7 POUR MORE BOILING WATER INTO THE TOP HOSE OF INTER COOLER
HEAPS OF IT THIS WILL FLUSH ALL THE RESIDUE OUT OF INTER COOLER AND LET DRAIN.

8 WHILE THIS IS DRAINING REMOVE BOTTOM HOSE AND CHECK FOR ANY HOLES.

9 REFITT BOTTOM HOSE TO THE INTER COOLER
REMOVE RAG FROM TURBO END OF HOSE AND CONECT TO TURBO.

10 NOW THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART
BEFORE YUO RECONNECT TOP HOSE TO ENGINE HAVE SOME ONE HOLD HOSE OVER SIDE OF XJ DONT POINT AT ANY ONE OR THING.

11 MAKE SURE INLET MANIFOLD IS CLEAR AND START ENGINE
BRING UP TO ABOUT 2000 RPM

12 YOU WILL NOW SEE WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO DO THIS
ANY WATER STILL SITTING IN THE INTER COOLER WILL BE BLOWN OUT
AND BELEAVE ME THERE WILL BE WATER COMMING OUT!
IF YOU DONT DO THIS ALL THAT WATER WILL GO STRAIGHT INTO YOUR ENGINE RESULT BIG BAD BOOM

13 WHEN NO MORE WATER COMES OUT RECONNECT TOP HOSE TO ENGINE
JOBS DONE

14 RECLEAN DRIVEWAY

easy to do but must be done as stated
inter cooler stays in car
cost 1 1/2 hours of your time $5 for the handy andy
you will notice the improvement in power
cheers Murray

275mm x 2 = 550mm
550mm x aspect ratio of 70% = 385mm
385mm / 25.4 = 15.16"
15.16" is the total wall height of the tyre + rim 15"
so....the tyre is ~30 inches.
