Optical, my ques is, how hard are you planning to drive this XJ of yours? It's a pretty big job to do the front diff I say. I'm running CTMs and Warn shafts on my D30 and have never had trouble since. And I put them through hell and back many times. You will find that the weak spot will occur somewhere else. In my case it's front prop shafts. I keep on twisting the tubing, so I beefed that up and then it was the splines that kept on disintegrating itself.

Mind you, it's easier to change the prop shaft than the axle shafts.

I'm upgrading to mega splines now. I think my output shafts will go next on my t.case. Then I'll have to get Atlas t.case... never ending story.

Ditto to B4M, my old diffs in the red XJ never caused me any grief. I am only doing this conversion myself as I am going to run 38's. If you are going to run max 35's why do it.

Another suggestion, if I may, is that when you guys who plan to run big tyres with a leaf spring on your XJ's you might as well weld some traction bar mounts on the rear diff before you install it.

I run stiffer Rubicon Express leaf packs in the back, and even they are notorious for axle wrap. Even on the slightest take off, you will notice the pinion wants to go up and bind the rear uni joint. In an off road situation, especially hill climbing, this will tend to break the uni joint.. and the yoke as well with it.

I've attached a pic of mine which I made, still raw and unpainted, but it works. Now I can plant it and not worry. On the street it lifts the whole rear end when you accelerate hard, funny feeling, feels like you got airbags.

Another advantage is that the long rear prop shaft now has a 'brace' should one of the unis break. It will stop you from doing an endo.

If any one is interested I can make a few of these trac bars on my next shipment of bumpers and panhards.

Cheers

Yeah I have thought about a trac bar. Looked at a few sites with them to get some design ideas. Yours looks quite neat though. how much would ya be charging for one?

i know of a D35 with braced housing with Warn floater kit/shafts thats available soon
Arb locker needs new planetary gears and r&p is toasted
but will be priced very reasonably and probably less than Warn kit is worth

PM me for details

im mainly thinking of doing this as if im doing the rear, i should do the front - mainly due to the stud and axle width differences. Will save me having to regear the D30 at the same time

im mainly worried about the rear for now and want to get that sorted. Just trying to thing of now and the future

beefing up the standard gear is all good and well, but its time and money that im focusing on atm - i can sort these diffs over a period of time, then eventually fit them in. Less off the road time i guess

jimmy what are you doing with yours?

max id run 35 / 36's id say
