Default Diesel Pump

Does anyone know where I might be able to source a fuel pump for a 1997 TD. I am looking at replacing the OE tank with a tank from 4wd systems and thought it might be timely to replace fuel pump and sender while I have the tank out.

Diesels dont have a fuel pump in the tank, the fuel is drawn by the fuel injection pump on the engine.

Ok thats easy don't need to replace OE pump.

I am going to put an auxillary tank in and want to plumb it to the system so that I can pump to main tank (easy any old diesel fuel pump) but also so that I can run the fuel from aux tank directly to injectors.

I figure that I will need to shut of supply from Main tank and then start pumping from aux tank.

Any ideas??

Since there is no pump in the tank, what about just plumbing the two tanks together so you effectively end up with one big tank?

I like what your saying mountain man. I would like to have two tanks so that if i whole one I still have the fuel in the other. I think the easier option is to have a pump between main tank and auxillary tank and just transfer from auxillary to main when needed.

If ever the main gets a whole in it i could then either fix whole in main and pump from aux or just repipe fuel lines to draw straight from auxillary.

Or I could use something like a 'lifter pump' on both tanks. I assume that these lifter pumps just supplier the fuel injector pump. So long as the lifter pump is pumping a greater PSI than injector pump you are ok. I am also thinking that when you turn the pump off that no fuel can pass through it so 'blocking' that tank. So I would then have to turn the other tank pump on to supply fuel to the injector pumps. This way I would have the OE fuel line running as normal aft of injector pump and then a T-piece running to aux tank with a lifter pump on each line from there (one to aux and one to main).

Don't know about pumping from main to auxillary though. It would be easier to be able to fill it up at the bowser. Don't know if there is anywhere to put a second filler cap though.
