I've got 31" mtr's. I've done 30k with them and they're nearing half worn but i've religously rotated them every 5000klm.

I've had no punctures, no flats, no chips or tears. They're been exceptionally good. They're woeful in the mud but awesome everywhere else and the only time i've felt unsafe on wet roads was when towing an overloaded trailor.

I'm about to retire the almost half worn set to the trailor and get a new set for the jeep.

As a GoodYear dealer, I have used MT/Rs on a couple of my 4WDs. I have also used M/T Claws, both bias & radial, Swamper TSLs, and both old & new Cooper STTs.

On my TJ I went from 33/12.50R15 MT/Rs to 285/70R17 STTs when the Coopers were released. The vehicle was transformed. In ever aspect of use the TJ was improved.

Despite the incentives that GoodYear offers for dealers to use their product, I fitted another set of STTs when I needed to replace them.

Rubish tyres. The worst. If you like taking your life in your own hands then go right ahead.
I had a set of 35's and put 2000 k's on them. Driving up the Hume at 110kph and a sidewall went. There was no damage to the one sidewall but the other looked like a sack of wallnuts in one spot. Goodyear wouldn't touch it and said I must have driven on it flat (try driving on a flat 35 in a three tonne Landcruiser at any speed and you will know it cant be done).
Anyway I pulled them straight off and pissed them off. Copted a pasting cash wise but I value my life more.
How often do you have to drive on road and what sort of k's?

I do around 15K PA and 70% is on road but thats generally in traffic or commuting to go wheeling...the TJ isnt a daily driver.

I heard the MTR had a sidewall issue but it was fixed in the new ones.

I want an MT anyway and the MTR isnt an MT by the sound of it - WTF did Goodyear call it an MTR?

Still researching.

What did you change them for matr?

Have just put the Hankook RT03 on my XJ, left Fourbys at Moorooka headed straight for the SE freeway and yes there was more noise than the Goodyear GSAs, but only a slight hum, more than acceptable, will see how they go as they wear.

I bought 8, 5 for the vehicle and 3 for the camper also on jeep rims so i have same size all round.

Look the goods, do a search on some of the USA forums, they seem to get good reviews and some are reporting 40-50,000 miles or 64-80,000 kms.

As you are in Brisbane give Ryan at Fourbys a call, he was able beat any other price I had. He was also good to talk to about the pros and cons of the different brands, he stocks Maxxis, Cooper, Mickey Thompson and others seemed to know his stuff, or I am easily fooled.

See Millhouse post #7 on this thread for pics

matr,

"Rubish tyres. The worst. If you like taking your life in your own hands then go right ahead"

Could you please post pics of the damage to your GoodYear MTRs? I am a G/Y dealer (have five franchises) and I would be interested to see what caused your opinion.

If you could provide details of your attempted warranty claim I would be interested in following it through to see why it was disallowed.

Tyre manufacturers, (with the exception of one Japanese company whose name starts with B), are usually fairly easy to deal with, especially if there is clear evidence of a manufacturing fault, as you infer.

I look forward to seeing the pics.
