Default Tyre pressure monitoring system

Does anyone know what happens if the Jeep tyre pressure monitors are removed from the tyres. Does the on-board computer keep looking for them and put out annoying warnings or beeps forever?
I'm thinking of installing the Austral sensor system, which would require removal of the Jeep ones. The reason is that the Austral system can monitor 8 tyres at once (i.e. including the caravan tyres) and does both pressure and tyre temperature. It also gives actual values not just a silly "warning" as the Jeep system does, and allows you to set your own limits for temperature and pressure.
However I don't want to stuff something else up in the process.

Hi,

I don't think you will have a problem. I believe the sensor must rotate to be active. E.g. an empty spare does not report low pressure.

I thought the Limiteds spare was also reported on? AFAIK the key difference is that there is no cable to the spare in a Sport (but then again the Stealer coul've given me wrong info again!).

Thought: get a tyre place to fit a normal valve to the spare, put it on the car and drive around the block. $10 and we'll know .

The spare is monitored on Limiteds as mine gave low warning once & I had to take it down & check it before warning would stop! It's set at 28psi (default I think). Limited gives actual readings on 4 rotating tyres but only low pressure warning on spare. I asked Jeep if they could add a sensor to 2nd spare for Simpson crossing but they told me the computer can only monitor 5. I have driven mine without spare on board (around city with long range tank taking up usual rear spot) & no warnings appear so shouldn't be a problem taking sensors out.I suspect computer treats it as if sensor was out of range. Hope that helps.

I should have clarified that I was not referring to the Limited version.
My warning system will not monitor the spare.
