I had thought about the body roll and stability but if you've driven my XJ you'd realise rear leaves dont help out too much.

As for Payload you'd thing it'd be better to just put AirBags in to help out.

I would say yes. Correctly setup rear leaves can flex very well, ride surprisingly perfectly and have many benefits most of which Jeff has mentioned. People who own XJ's that compain about having rear leaves either have not taken it to the right person to set them up or have stuffed it up themselves!

spot on... even Brad Kilby runs rear leafs on his own TJ ...and considering some of the systems they make...it must be good

Cool factor is one good reason. I personally like the simplicity of it. As JB said its all in the set up. Yeah a coilover would be better and tri/4 link even better still as a combo. BUT. I well tuned leaf rear would go anywhere the 5 times more dearer coil.4 link set up would.

Best comment on this thread goes to..........

Have a look at how much gaurd trimming they have done TT. That is designed to flex and they have chosen leafs. What does that tell you?

Only thing I cant get my head around is the unsprung weight of the 60. Something tells me a leaf would handle it better than a coil. Alot better.
Well done for giving it serious consideration. Risk versus reward.

Only differance is I would have SOA. Not this. You could still keep a low COG with SOA jus gives you less to hang on.

Another point to think about here in the whole scheme of things is useability. Average joe at some with a MIG and a couple of beers could set up leaf springs on their TJ to run safely on the highway at 100kmh.

Average Joe with a MIG would need to put a "LOT" of thought, and go through a "LOT" of rig-ma-role to get a coiled 4 link, 3 link, A frame whatever done.

Not saying impossible to do 2nd option, just pointing out the viability and ease might over rule it.

good points guys.... After crunching the numbers on the tri link calculator (which I have a metric version if anyone wants it) there is still a lot of if's and buts. One of the main things I like with leafs is the lack of the springs unloading like with the current coil setup.

only catch is the blue tourch kit would be great with a comp cut...I still want my tank under the back (genright stretch one) , and I think it will need a torque arm if I use something like xj springs

Nah I disagree JB - for a low lift (ie the srpings are fairly flat) I;d opt for SUA before SOA.
