Default 2001 Classic purchased

Just collected the latest aquisition. 2001 XJ Classic. surprised to see it has ABS. it seems REALLY low. next to a 97 classic it is about 40mm lower all round. is this normal or has some plonker lowered the car? very harsh ride also. and red coil springs???? something doesn't seem right. any ideas?

Red coils? seems like a pedders lowering or stock lift kit which has sagged.. good luck with the car and congrats on the purchase

Sounds lowered to me. A sagged lift would be super-soft, not hard. Try and get some stock springs to replace them. Shouldn't cost much at all.

Definately lowered. It should sit slightly higher than a stock 97 as they usually came with Up Country Suspension (well mine did).

My 01 XJ Classic wasn't noticably lower when I got it.

On stock suspension (a bit sagged):

Definitely sounds like Pedders was playing with it.
