i dont have any probs with mine!
stock gearing
31"s
still goes like a shower of sh*t,
ya just have to give it plenty of right foot!!!

i need to drop down to 3rd on hills and when passing...
my fan is also locked solid which does drain alot of power, due to the air resistance.

just wind the revs all the way out in 2nd, 3rd then 4th and feel the power!!!
yahahaahahoo!!!!!

p.s. do it with the top down! and ACDC blasting on stereo!

I'm on stock ratios and 31s' and it goes alright. Hold the gears longer mate. It might be screaming but the rpm is prolly only 3k!

Nanks, we are all sort of flying blind here. What size tyres do you currently have on it?? I can't see anywhere that you have mentioned it. Are they stock, 31's, 33's????

I have a 96 cherokee. I realise it is not a TJ but it still has the 4.0 ltr straight six. It has approx 260,000kms running custom extractors through to a 2.5inch system. It's an auto and I run 31 inch muddies (standard gears) and tow a Trackabout camper fully loaded. I travel at 100-110km/h on the highway and only need to drop back to 3rd on hills with the trailer behind me or when over taking. Even then, the torque converter kicks in and drops the revs. For an older motor, still has a heap of balls. It has also done a shit load of towing between Brisbane and Sydney up and down both the old and new highways with boats and trailers etc behind it in it's younger years.

I have had it for 9 of it's 12 year life, and i suppose only now am i starting to see it getting a bit tired. Still not a puff of smoke though.

So i think you may have an issue OR you are expecting too much from her.

Just a couple of questions.......Can i ask how tall you are???? Do your feet reach all the way to the pedals and can they push it all the way to the floor???? Sorry........Just kidding........

Interesting thread ladies and ladies...

Ok here's some facts of my experience...

1) XJ's will blow TJ's any day of the week. XJ's weigh less than TJ's and the XJ engine puts out 4kw more

2) TJ's are crap at anything above 90klm/hr due to wind resistance. That goes double for towing trailors. If i cruise at 90klm/hr with my 700kg camper trailor i get 13-14L/100klm but if i do 115klm/hr with the same trailor i get 22L/100klm. That's a fact i've proven from a trip to Fraser 2 weeks ago.

3) 3.07 gears are woeful with 29" GSA's let alone 31" muddies. Same goes for the 3.73 auto gearing.

4) 4.11 gears with 31's are awesome, except with anything above 90klm/hr At 90klm/hr on the hwy it does 2200rpm in 5th gear and i don't rarely change down for hills anymore, except with the trailor on.

5) Power and fuel economy. Diff ratios are the best and IMO the only thing to help improve power and economy for TJ's. I've getting 2L+/100klm better economy with the new ratios (when i cruise at 90klm/hr on the hwy). That's about $9 per tank or $468 per year (1 tank per week) or 3 years to pay for themselves ($1400 supply and fit)... which works out well because i plan to keep it for more than that

cheers
