Yep its times like these im glad i jumped ship last year, My company pre empted the downturn and laid off 600 odd staff about 7 months ago.

gee i didn't like that movie either feel dumber already

it hapening over here as well our company (shipping and transport) has sold the roll on/ off ship they replaced it with a container ship with out cranes so it never comes to our wharf! and our other container ship has cranes and we see that one day a week! 8 of us in the workshop 15+ wharfies can't see us lasting much longer
I mantain the trailers had 90ish road legal when i started 6 years ago now we have 50 ish and talk of only needing/keeping 8 trailers
the wharf machines use to use 12 to 1500 ltrs diesel a week now lucky to use 900
and they say moving by sea the most costefetive and green way to move stuff over here but were the only nz owned costal shipping company and nobody uses us
but shit happens
and our boss tells us nothing we will find out when we turn up to work one morning and someone to escort us to get our tools etc then bye bye

You will only get the duck-shove if you are not the only INDESPENSIBLE one working there with your qualifications. If you don't have enough Q's, get some quick.
