Default Sick KJ Cherokee Sport

Hey

I have late 2002 model KJ with 70000 kms on the clock that is playing up like a 2nd hand lawnmower, it appears to have electrical issues that put it into limp Home mode, I have the gear box speed sensor and the crank angle sensor replaced yet these problems continue to occur.

Its my wifes car and she needs a reliale vehicle, she has just recovered from breast cancer and is still getting treatment , we want to trade it but I cannot in good conscience trade a non working vehicle ( otherwise some poor bugger will buy it and have the same problems I do) so Im thinking about trying to sell it as is. Its a September 2002 Jeep Cherokee sport ( has disk brakes front and rear), first reg in feb 2003, 70 000 on the clock, has the mags off a Cherokee Renegade ( all 5) and brand new Yokohama tyes ( less than 500 kms on them). The interior is okay and the body work is fine, small ding in rear door where my wife hit the wheelie bin reversing out of the drive way. When its running, its runs fantastically.

Im sure someone technically minded will find the fault and fix it, but I have shelled out $2500 so far on servicing, repairs and new boots and am having a hard time paying more money, I'd rather cut my losses and run.

I know the 2nd hand car market is pretty average at best, what could I hope to get for it ?

thanks

Chris

trade it.

when we traded our cars for the JK, the dealer didnt even turn them on to see if they started.

seriously, from the sounds of it you've had enough troubles to deal with lately - the last thing you need to deal with is a troublesome jeep. treat yourself and your wife to a new reliable car and let someone else deal with the jeep.

Well in NSW dealers are selling 2002 KJ V6s for between $17K and $20K depending on condition. That is their selling price, what they give in trade-in is lower. Here is some carsales data:

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars..._id=898&D=2002

I would not expect more than $15k in trade-in but you may get lucky. As always it is better to sell it privately to maximise the $ you get, but that takes time and people will likely spot your problems. As Casey said new car sales guys usually don't care, but I did have one vehicle inspected by the mechanic at a dealer before they would take it, it depends on who your dealing with.

Trade it! Mine was barely running when I dropped it off at the dealers. I got 19K trade in (it was an 05 CRD with 105k on it). A week later it was for sale at another dealer with a 3 year warranty so I'd have no "conscience" issues.

where did you trade yours in at?
the only place that offered me over $10k trade in price was Toyota if i got a gxl prado
jeep offered the lowest price out of everyone ( btw its a 04 crd limited..excellent condition) saying they were struggling to get 10k trade in price. Needless to say i said go and f%$k yourself seeing how i bought it off them 9 months earlier for $28k
nissan offered $12k holden offered $10k.......so on a 02 sport $15k sounds like a bargain to me and trade it asap

Kiffsta, have you had the computer scanned/read to determine the issue? You can also check the codes yourself (search the threads to find out how) and post it so that someone can tell you what it means. Could be something simple.
